  • Free Batteries!

So, yes I'm super frugal, but I don't often share all my deals... but this is a good one.  Absolutely free batteries!  Target has Rayovac 2 packs of AA and AAAs in the $1 section at the very front of the store.  With this coupon or the one in last Sunday's paper, they're absolutely free!  I got 12 packs yesterday, 24 batteries, for free.  Now, while just linking that, I noticed the online coupon says you have to purchase the 4 pack, but it has the exact same bar code as the one from the paper and the paper coupon does not require that, so it will still work.  And like I said, I did 12 at once, 10 of which were the online coupons, and had no problem with the cashier.  So try it out if you need some batteries   I have been told not all Targets have them, in which case I've heard Wal-Mart also has them at the big battery boxes near the checkouts for $.94.

I have another recipe to share, but I shall save that for another day.

In other news, we have our family Christmas exchange today for DeWayne's side of the family, so that'll be fun!  I have all our presents wrapped and ready to go (sidenote:  I found 6 rolls of free wrapping paper sitting out for the trash near my house from someone that was moving, woohoo!) I have noticed I am a bit more emotional through this holiday season with DeWayne being gone (he LOVES Thanksgiving and Christmas), but am holding up all right, as is he.  We are almost halfway done with this deployment (the actual time in Iraq), it can't go quick enough!

  • Well, despite my desire to blog more, I already spend too much time on the internet, so it just doesn't happen!  However, I made 2 new delicious recipes that I gotta pass on.  First, I made Pork Tenderloin.  Since I'm a wimp and don't grill in the winter, I seared the pork in a frying pan with a little olive oil for about 4 minutes on each side at medium heat, then transferred to a dish, poured the leftover marinade over it, and popped it in the oven at 350 for about 45 minutes (til the meat got to 160 degrees).  It turned out very good, despite the fact that I hate mustard, and the marinade mixture smelled really nasty!

Second, I made Roasted Sweet Potatoes.  I followed the recipe except I didn't add the sugar, and I cut it in slices instead of wedges.  It was very good!

Despite loving them as a baby, since coming off baby food I cannot get Faith to eat sweet potatoes in any form, and this was no exception, but I have always hated sweet potatoes and recently found that I really like them if they're cooked this way!   Faith ate the pork though, and tenderloin is about the only pork tender enough for her, as she doesn't like any tough meat (she's a medium rare steak fan like myself)

While I'm here, I will also announce that we have switched to drinking raw milk instead of the regular pasteurized and homogenized stuff.  It requires extra running around since I can't get it at the grocery store, but after doing some research I decided the health benefits were worth it.  I first got it from a local lady who had a milk cow, and I must admit I didn't like the flavor at all, it tasted very "farmy".  She adopted a calf who is drinking all the milk, so I had to start getting it from the health food store instead, and this stuff is so much better!  It's from Jerseys instead of Holsteins, I don't know if that makes a difference, but it sure does taste better.  I don't think I can ever go back to skim again after this creamy fatty delicious milk   But... it costs $6 a gallon, so I am also drinking more water, as I gotta make this stuff last as long as possible!  The cool part is you can skim the cream off the top, and I've been able to use that to make homemade ice cream and even butter!

  • So I have been starting to cook more lately, it's been something to keep my mind occupied while DeWayne has been gone (he is in Iraq in case anyone reading this is really out of the loop).  I thought I'd start sharing some of the recipes that have been successes, and maybe a random failure now and then just for kicks.  I prefer to cook from scratch, but came across this recipe and thought it was something Faith would like.  I'm trying to get away from condensed soups, but this was an easy recipe to whip up, and Faith chowed it down!  I served it with mashed potatoes (sidenote: I only recently found mashed potatoes to be edible, since becoming pregnant with Faith my tastes for potatoes changed, and I now like them), and used the green bean/soup mixture as a gravy on top of the potatoes, and it was quite yummy.  Faith has been getting pickier lately, so anything she'll eat large quantities of is a keeper for me.

  • One last picture of the babies, they're mostly grown up now!

One had already flown away before I could get a pick, and one of the parents tried to poop on me to scare me off, luckily they missed.  Since at least one of them is flying already, I doubt I'll be able to get any more pics.  A few days ago, one fell out of the nest about 15 feet down to the ground.  Luckily I saw it (I'm sure neighborhood cats would've gotten to it otherwise), used gloves and a little shovel to pick it up, take it upstairs out to the deck and back into its nest.  It's still alive, I don't know if it's okay though.  The one egg never did hatch, so sad!

In other news, it is more confirmed by the day that Faith is all girl.  It didn't come from me!  She is obsessed with shoes and necklaces, and her latest fetish is lots and lots of ponytails.  When I'm trying to work from home at the computer, she just brings me one ponytail holder after another and puts her head down for me to put them in, this was today's creation:

Also, she's started being cheesy with the camera, so I am having a hard time getting genuine pictures, but it is funny

  • So I had to check on the new babies today.  Mom must have been out shopping for dinner, as I at no time felt my life threatened while taking pictures.  One does not appear to want to be born, I'm hoping it's okay, but we shall see.  It looks like there are 3 babies and the one egg.  It was so cute to actually see them moving around a bit, and not just little blobs of feathers like they were yesterday.  They're kind of freaky looking with their eyes still shut, but somehow still cute because of the fact that they are babies.

Other than that, I'm bored today.  Of course I could always clean my house, but that's no fun.  Faith appears to be waking up now though from her nap, so no more boredom!
